About the archive

Why this site exists

TheSchmitts.Org is a family archive for the Schmitt families and related branches connected to Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, and beyond. The purpose is straightforward: keep family history in one place where relatives can read stories, trace connections, and recover details that would otherwise disappear.

What is included

The site combines several kinds of material: family news, personal recollections, scanned photos and documents, branch-specific pages, and a growing family tree. Some pages are narrative, others are reference material, and together they help preserve both memory and structure.

How to contribute

If you have corrections, scanned materials, dates, stories, or family photos, they are welcome. Contributions do not need to be polished. Rough notes, image files, and partial memories are often enough to preserve something important.

Why it matters

Family sites are most useful when they do more than list names. This one aims to hold onto the stories, relationships, and context that turn a genealogy page into something meaningful to the people still reading it.
